ritual can be seen from the woman’s point of view
and where women can bond and share their
experiences.

The service will be led jointly by Judy Saxe and
Michelle Rivken—Fish; Aviva Bowling will lead the
singing and dancing. Ritual foods and a full dessert
course will be provided, but there will be no main
meal. The cost for the seder is $7.50.

The service is based on the Ma’yan Passover

of the Commemoration

he Central Kentucky community will

commemorate Yom HaShoah, Holocaust

Remembrance Day, on Monday, April 28.

The community observance will include a Yiskor

(memorial) service in memory of the six million
Jews who died in the Holocaust. Included in the
program to speak is Social Studies teacher Jim
Beward of the Henry Clay High School faculty will
be speaking. Mr. Beward was among the first
group of Fayette County teachers who visited the
US. Holocaust Memorial Museum last fall as part
of the Michael Adelstein Holocaust Education
Program sponsored by the Central Kentucky

Jewish Federation. Planning committee members
include Professor Jeremy Popkin of The Lexington
Havurah, Dr. Leon Ravvin representing Temple
Adath Israel and Rabbi H. Uriel Smith representing
Ohavay Zion Synagogue. Rabbi Smith is also the
chair of the CKJF Community Relations Commit—
tee, which is coordinating the commemoration
program.

(Holocaust) is about memory. Not only the memory
of the 6,000,000 Jews and the additional millions of
non—Jews who where exterminated by the Nazi

Israeli Consul Speaks

on UK campus

Professor Michael Desch, Associate Director
Patterson School of Diplomacy and
International Commerce with Giora Becher.

“ srael is at war against terrorism,” Giora
Becher the Consul General of Israel in
Philadelphia told University of Kentucky

students on March 11, “the same as the United
States is in a war against terrorism fighting in
Afghanistan. The war Israel is fighting is between
Israel and terrorist groups.”

The University of Kentucky Patterson School of
Diplomacy and International Commerce sponsored
the evening talk, “Israel and the Peace Process,”
held at the UK Student Center.

In a full room of students with faculty and others
present, Consul Becher noted the goal of Israel is to
achieve peace with the Palestinians and all peoples.
There has to be an end of violence and terror,
Israeli civilians have to stop being targeted by terror
groups, and this will lead to sitting around the table
and negotiating, Mr. Becher told the UK audience.

In response to a question that Jewish settlements
were the issue, Mr. Becher noted between 1948
and 1967 the West Bank and Gaza were not under
Israeli control and there was no peace, there was
