- Morgan's Raid refers to the movement of Confederate cavalry, led by John Hunt Morgan, from Tennesse to northern Ohio. Covering over 1,000 miles, the raid took place between June 11, 1863 and July 26, 1863. During this period, the raiders disrupted rail lines and stole from private homes, businesses, and farms.
- Scope and Content
- The broadside orders all able-bodied men in Lexington, Kentucky to take arms and aid in repelling the "marauders," a reference to Morgan's raiders. Those who refuse to participate are warned to stay in their homes or risk being shot. Signed by Jeremiah Boyle, Brigadier General in the Union Army and F.G. Bracht, Mayor and Provost Marshall. The broadside misidentified Bracht's initials as F.P.
