federation Campaign. and the total
collected of$3 I 5.000 \\ as the highest
in fouryears. liqnally significant is the fact
that more people contributed to this campaign
than c\ er before. It is often said that where
you are. is only important when you consider
the direction you are heading. The CKJli
Campaign Committee wants to thank the
\\ hole community on both counts \Ve dill it
together.
Building on our I999 success, and in the

face of growing needs in the Central Kentucky
Jewish community. we have set a goal of
33 75.000 for the 2000 UJC 'l’cdcration Cam»
paign. This goal will allow us to meet many of
our community needs in the areas ot Social
Sery ices. (‘oinntunity Relations. t. ommunit}
Acti\ lllL‘s, Scholarships. .le\\ ish lducation and
more . and again. we need to do ll together.
We lia\ c enlarged the Campaign Cabinet to
kelp u -. iichic\ e our goal. and to make sure that
we- gl\ e people the opportunity to take a
leadership role in providing for our needs locally,

in Israel, and around the world for many years to come. We want
every person in the community to know what our campaign is for. and
\\e w ill be publicizing some ofthe programs which are funded with
our contributions. You will hear more and more about this throughout
the year.

Thanks to all ofyou again for helping to make the 1999 Campaign
one ofthe most successful in our history as a community. Thank you
to those who helped organize and conduct the campaign, thank you to
those who solicited the funds, and a very special thank you for all of
you who answered the call.

Medical Assistant preparing to take the MCAT and apply for medical
school next year, knows many ofus in the community through her
teaching in the Temple Adath Israel Religious School and her involvement
with the Temple Preschool. However, probably more of us know
LisaMarie by the general aura ofwarmth and energy (and swarms ot‘kids
and preteens) that seems to surround her always! Welcome. LisaMarie!

I 20001 Camp Shalom his summer will be a g
wonderful experience of motivation, love and

community. I would like to see all the children (camp-
ers, counselors, and CITs) come away from this
event with fond memories and a feeling ofaccom-
plishment and unity. With the help ofthe terrific and
talented specialists CKJF has lined up. I have no doubt
that we will achieve this goal.

I look forward to our three weeks ofCamp starting
July 24, for which I and the Camp Shalom committee
are well into the planning. In the meantime, feel free to contact me or
Holly Barnhill through the CKJF office ifyou have questions, orjoin
the Camp Shalom Committee and participate in the planning ofa
