- Biography / History
- Charles Lewis Romine was born in 1857. His parents and birthplace are unknown. During his life he worked for William Butler Saffell, a distiller based in Anderson County, Kentucky. Romine also worked for John W. Richmond, a horse breeder and cattle dealer in Fisher, Champaign County, Illinois. According to Charles Romine's death certificate he was a stationary engineer. He was divorced and had two children: Hughbert Romaine and Grace Romine. Charles died, 1930, in Fort Thomas, Kentucky.

- The Charles Romine letters (dated 1896-1901; 0.01 cubic feet, 1 folder, 3 items) comprise three letters that document work life in a Kentucky distillery and with a horse breeder and cattle dealer from central Illinois. Two letters are from W.B. Saffell and J.W. Richmond and are letters of recommendation for Charles Romine, describing him as honest, industrious, and compentent. One letter is to Charles Romine in Fisher, Illinois, from Saffell, in Anderson County, and explains he does not have work at present for Romine in September 1900. Saffell mentions that if William Jennings Bryan is elected president then he will have no work for anyone.
