Biography / History
The Bible Society of Kentucky was established in 1816 as an auxiliary of the American Bible Society. It was succeeded in 1836 by the Lexington and Vicinity Bible Society. Both groups circulated Bibles and religious tracts.
Scope and Content
Included in this collection are a record book and miscellaneous papers relating to the Lexington and Vicinity Bible Society and its predecessor, the Bible Society of Kentucky. The volume contains letters and records of the corresponding secretary, dating from 1836 to 1908, and minutes of the Society's Executive Committee and annual meetings; miscellaneous materials include clippings and a small amount of correspondence. Also present is a broadside of the minutes, constitution, list of charter members and a list of the officers of the first convention held in Lexington (September 26, 1816) when the Bible Society of Kentucky was formed.

The Breckinridge Research Room will be closed starting May 11, 2026, and anticipates re-opening Fall semester 2026 in an alternate location for the duration of the King Library renovation.
