Collection Overview
- Biography / History
- The United States first required revenue stamps on manufactured tobacco in 1868. Alcohol stamps were used up until 1985.
- Scope and Content
- The collection consists of internal revenue stamps for tobacco, cigars and cigarettes, snuff, and alcohol. Additionally, the collection contains some fractional United States currency, Confederate notes from Alabama and Georgia, and a city loan from Newark, New Jersey.
