- Biography / History
- Theodore Frelinghuysen Hallam, former Confederate officer, lawyer, state senator, orator, and wit, was very active in Democratic party politics in northern Kentucky in the late nineteenth century. He was noted for leading the faction within the party which opposed William Goebel in the 1890's. In 1875, Hallam married Bettie Stevenson, of Covington, Ky. They had one daughter, Alice Stevenson Hallam.
- Scope and Content
- This is a heterogenous collection of the personal and business papers of the Hallam family, of Covington, Kentucky. It includes Hallam's legal correspondence for the years 1873 to 1905, legal briefs, family letters and financial papers. It does not include many of his political papers. Mrs. Hallam's correspondence with her family, dating from 1858 to 1904, a scrapbook, clippings, and photographs of the Stevenson family are included. Alice Hallam's social and family correspondence from 1891 to 1951, which contains several letters from Irvin S. Cobb, is included, as are manuscripts of her essays and poems, journals, clippings, photographs, and the unpublished biography of her father which she wrote in the early 1900's.

The Breckinridge Research Room will be closed starting May 11, 2026, and anticipates re-opening Fall semester 2026 in an alternate location for the duration of the King Library renovation.
Reproduction requests will still be available during the closure.
