- Biography / History
- The National Society of Colonial Dames (NSCD) is an organization founded in 1890 in which members are a descendant of someone who came to reside in an American colony prior to 1750. The mission of NSCD is to promote national heritage through historic preservation. There are many chapters throughout the country.
- Scope and Content
- The National Society of Colonial Dames of America descriptions of old Kentucky houses consists of typed reports of descriptions of houses built as early as the eighteenth century. These reports indicate the original land owners, original homeowners, when the home was built, size of the house, number of rooms, features of the house, and any modifications to the homes. In many of the reports, the person responsible for the compilation of information is listed, as well as when it was written. Some of the descriptions indicate that several of the Kentucky homes were built and/or owned by prominent people such as George Washington and Colonel Abner Gaines. The majority of the reports were written in 1954.
