Collection Overview

Biography / History
William H. Spradlin was born February 12, 1868 in Dickson County, Tennessee, to parents Obediah Spradlin and Mohalion Booker. His father worked as a carpenter and contractor. William married Ada B. Spradlin, and in the early 1900s they lived in Fulton, Kentucky. They had two children, Andy and Nell Spradlin. William Spradlin worked a contractor and architect for residences and commercial properties. He died on May 11, 1925, in Fulton, Kentucky.
Scope and Content
The William H. Spradlin architectural drawings (dated 1908-1921; 1 cubic feet; 1 oversized box, 1 folder) comprise design drawings for residences and commercial properties designed by architect William H. Spradlin, with most of the properties in Fulton, Kentucky, and surrounding areas. The collection contains only project outside of Kentucky, a commercial building designed for Union City, Tennessee. The drawings are ink on linen, and often illustrate multiple floor plans and facades on a single sheet. The Cantillon residence drawings depict a unique, three-sided fireplace on the first floor plans.
