- Biography / History
- Emma Virginia Jayne was born on January 28, 1929, in Ashland, Kentucky. Her parents were John Jayne and Edith Brewer Jayne. The family included siblings Elizabeth Brewer Jayne and John William Jayne. Emma Virginia Jayne earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Kentucky in English and linguistics. Jayne taught in various public schools for 39 years, including Ashland Independent Schools, Hatcher and Oakview Elementary Schools, Coles Junior High School, and Paul G. Blazer Senior High School. Jayne was active in First Baptist Church, Ashland, KY.; the University of Kentucky Alumni Association; and the Modern Language Association of America. Jayne was a Kentucky Colonel. Jayne died on June 16, 2022, in Ashland, Kentucky.

- Scope and Content
- The Emma Virginia Jayne Collection of University of Kentucky Memorial Hall Organ Photographs (dated 1952 May 6; .1 cubic feet; 4 items in 1 folder) comprises four, black-and-white, 8x10 photographic prints of the pipe organ in the University of Kentucky Memorial Hall. One of the photographs includes five men sitting on the organ bench or standing next to the organ. The men are identified as Frank McVey, Herman Donovan, Arthur Poister, Arnold Blackburn, and Walter Holtkamp. That photograph is dated May 6, 1952, and was taken on the occasion of the dedication of the new Holtkamp organ in Memorial Hall, which replaced the original organ. Poister was the featured performer at the dedication. Current university President Donovan delivered the dedication. Blackburn was a professor of music. McVey was the former university president. Presumably, the other photographs were taken at the same time.
