 No salaries are paid except to a limited number of expert
teachers for county schoole(until the Clearing House for
Human Material yields them)eaVe to mountaineers who are con~
ducting their own uplift work (many serving without salary),
through their association, under the guidance of the Commun~
ity Secretary, a Boston woman, who eerVes without salary

This Association is the outgrowth of a private philanthrophy
that was placed in Knott County in 1917. called the Caney

Creek Community Center. This Center has now merged into the

Association under the terms of the by—laws — its school now
being owned by the County and conducted by it and its Commun—
ity Center owned by the Community.The founder of the C C C C,
lrs Alice Spencer Geddies Lloyd. of Boston, has been elected

the Community Secretary.

Mrs Lloyd is hoping to raise the outside money that. for a
few years. must be supplemented to that raised by the County
and the Communities. Neglect for 200 years cannot be made up
in five years,without help.
