I am so glad that you think the Natinnal Federation
of Settlements $100.00 Unit System a good idea. Raising
$100.00 for the general work of the Settlement on a bigger
scale is separate and apart from the assessment of each
settlement according to its budget, for the National
Federation. Neighborhood House was assessed $34.00 last

year for the National Federation. This year we will
probably be assessed about $40.00.

I promised that Neighborhood House would be responsible
for raising all of the Unit not contributed by the other
settlements of the State who felt that they could not afford
to contribute to the $100.00 Unit. You can jud e from this
that I certainly welcomed your contribution of $12.50.

Thank you very much for calling my attention to the fact
that you had not been reimbursed for the traveling expenses
of Una Ritchie and Mary Combs of Science Hill to the
Conference of Social Workers at Danville. You will receive
a check for $8.00 very shortly. Our Kentucky Conference is . .

My dear Miss Stone:

I am inclOSing two copies of replies to my inquiries regarding
Mr. Robinson, from which you can draw your own conclusions.

The fact that he graduated from Harvard 1908, and so must have
been close upon Draft age and was so anxious to serve his country that
he became a Y. M. C. a. Secretary is enough to condemn him with me.
However I am inclined to believe he is a Dreamer, jumps at conclusions
and is rather set after having formed an opinion, at any rate he is
not a howling success in the law business.

It is quite interesting to note that one of these boy's aunt was
only prevented by illness from joining you at hindman.

we were very sorry not to have hiss 3rijsby with us to speak bel
fore the handicraft Club but hope she may be atle to accept our humtle
hosnitality at some future date, Mary substituted for her and accord-
ing to my sister did both herself and Hindman proud. Some of the mem-
bers remarked that it was the most interesting talk they had ever had.

Mary has just received an invitation to speak before some other
organization at the Plantations Cluh on April 24th, so you see the
Hindman ”Boosters" are doing their hit.

Mrs. Barrows, Theodora’s Trandmother, came up and pathetically
sooke to Mary at the Handicraft Club saying she was broken hearted
that Theodora had left Hindman and that she knew the school had done
a lot for her and would have done more had she remained longer. She
gave Mary Six Dollars to give to you as a small token of appreciation.

If we can ever be of any service to you please don't hesitate to
call on us.

I have been looking around to see whet information
I could get in regard to Mr, Elliot H, Robinson. I have scourefi
the story of his life, which is more or less as follows:

He is a native of Niddleroro, Mass. - graduate of
Harvard 1908 - Harvard Lew 1910 - practised with 2 well known
firm of lawyers upon his admission to the her and after two years
with them transferred his connection to the office of J. Weston
Allen, who is now attorney General of Massachusetts,

Hr Pobinson does not seem to Te very well known among
the leW"ers as I inquirefl of about eifkt or ten without finding
one who knew him. John McKey knows him as they both live in Newton
Hirhlsnds- John says Rotinson is no particular friend of his but
that so fer as he knows he is a 1005 fellow.

Mr. Rorinson was with the V, N C. A_ on duty in France
during the War, and besides ravinz written two or three books, he

is musically inclinefl are I understand has directed choirs, etc,

I am unable to find anything against the man, but gather
that he is the tyne of fellow who mifiht he more or less of an easy
mark for any clever fake, and it may be that your friend Nrs. Lloyd
has hooked him up with a oropositicn which he does not know too
much about.

I hope this will give you the information you want.
If not, let me know.

you riihtly said, was in the samp aw office with Fr J, Heston Allen.
Nr. Allen happens to he a Yale man toth Willard and I have known for
years, and he recently as you may have seen in the newsoeoers, has been
receivinq 9 great deal of oraise as attorney General fior the State of
Massachusetts in cleaninz no and putting out cf office the poor Pistrict
Attorney.

Willard talked with Mr. Allen yesterday about Mr. Robinson, and
personally fir. Robinson enjoys the highest reoutetion’ Mr. Allen said
however, that he was more interested in writing than he was in the law
yusinesg, so I imasine he is not very active in the law,

I think that hrs. 8. 3, Lloyd is not what she claims to he, that
you would be doing Mr. ?olirson s favor to lay the exact facts before him,
as I feel a man of his reputation could not afford to have something come
out later about Mrs. Lloyd's genuineness which would out him in a bad liqht.
Undoultedlv this Mrs. Lloyd has spoesled to him, and he out of kindness of
his heart, has tried to helo her out in her work.

I am very much interested shoot the Hindman School, as ifll am
not mistaken, my wife's aunt intended to go there to work a short while
azo, and was only orevented from doing so by ill health. We heard a areat
deal about the school from her, and the worderful work it was doing.
