- Lawyer, soldier. Sharp, who later filled various public offices in Lexington, Ky, including chief of the fire department (1871-1875) and city attorney (1880-1881), as well as state treasurer, was one of the six Confederate soldiers who managed to capture Winchester (Clark County, Ky.) from two hundred Union cavalry in the Battle of Winchester, October 21, 1862.

- This is a typescript of Stephen G. Sharp's narrative about the battle that occurred in Winchester, Ky. in 1862 as well as a typescript of a speech, made by Thomas Christian at a veterans' reunion on June 20, 1870 in Paris, Ky, about the battle of Fort Meigs (Ohio) in 1813. The speech, by Thomas Christian was printed by the Western Reserve and Northern Ohio Historical Society in Cleveland, Ohio, in pamphlet number 23, October, 1874. It is an account of the battle and the eventual defeat of Dudley's Regiment in the War of 1812.
