- Milford Overley was a member of the 9th Kentucky Cavalry, C.S.A. Lexington, Ky. during the Civil War.

- The Milford Overley papers are mainly comprised of the original manuscript for From the Cradle to the Grave: The Southern Confederacy, Its Birth, Its Struggle for Existence and Its Tragic Death. Other materials in the collection include a scrapbook containing articles pertaining to the Civil War and Milford Overley.
