- Biography / History
- Ida May Curtis (1861-1945) was born in Bethany, West Virginia to parents Jacob E. Curtis and Melissa G. Kerr. Her father was a farmer. After her mother died during Ida's childhood, her father married her mother's sister. She was sent to attend school at the Hamilton Female College in Lexington, Kentucky. She married George Albert De Long (1844-1910) in 1888 and continued to reside in Lexington; they had four children. She lived in Lexington until her death from a fall in 1945.

- The Ida M. Curtis diary (dated 1878-1880; 0.03 cubic feet; 1 item) comprises a diary that she kept while attending Hamilton Female College in Lexington, Kentucky. She discusses her classes, homework, and teachers at the college. She also includes details about her personal life, friends, and religious and secular activities she pursues while in school.
