- Biography / History
- Alexander John Mitchell (circa 1780-1822) was a physician in Frankfort, Kentucky. He married Elizabeth "Betsy" Allen Mitchell (1792-1840) in 1812. They had three childrend together including Martha Bell Mitchell (1816-1903) who married Kentucky artist Oliver Frazer in 1838.
- Scope and Content
- The Alexander John Mitchell medical notebook (dated circa 1810s; 0.1 cubic feet; 1 item) comprises a notebook kept by Mitchell containing sections on different diseases and conditions. The notebook records the accepted treatment of the time for each condition and often refers to other doctors. The backs of the pages contain handwriting practice, possibly for Mitchell's wife Elizabeth "Betsy" Allen Mitchell.
