- Biography / History
- The Barrow Unit, named for its founder, Dr. David Barrow of Lexington, Kentucky, was a unique volunteer medical organization, comprised largely of central Kentuckians. The unit provided medical services in England to personnel of the U.S. Army during World War I. Members included David Barrow, William Reddish, Waller O. Bullock, Charles Garr, and Louis Haggin.
- Scope and Content
- The Barrow Unit papers (dated 1899-1957, bulk 1917-1919; 0.1 cubic feet; 1 reel) include correspondence, printed articles, newspaper clippings, official orders, and rosters documenting the military medical unit known as the Barrow Unit, which provided medical services in England to personnel of the United States Army during World War I. The bulk of the collection consists of photocopies of articles about the Barrow Unit or by and about Dr. Barrow. Also present are military communications to Barrow and a portion of Barrow's correspondence.

The Breckinridge Research Room will be closed starting May 11, 2026, and anticipates re-opening Fall semester 2026 in an alternate location for the duration of the King Library renovation.
