Collection Overview

- The Committee was established in 1963 to fight racial and religious discrimination. It worked for open housing, non-discrimination in public accommodations, voting rights, and integration of the University of Kentucky athletic teams, among other civil rights goals.
- Scope and Content
- These records contain minutes and miscellaneous documents of the Lexington Committee on Religion and Human Rights. There are minutes of general meetings and meetings of the Steering Sub-committee from 1963 to 1967. There are also miscellaneous letters and newsletters.
Special Collections Research Center - Closed
The Breckinridge Research Room will be closed starting May 11, 2026, and anticipates re-opening Fall semester 2026 in an alternate location for the duration of the King Library renovation.
Reproduction requests will still be available during the closure.
