- Biography / History
- The Family Service of Lexington and Fayette County was an affiliate of the Family Service Association of America. The national organization began in 1911 as the American Association for Organizing Charity. It promotes communication among social work agencies. The Family Service of Lexington and Fayette County was devoted to fostering and promoting the development of wholesome family life and citizenship through social services. The agency worked with families in the county who were experiencing financial, relationship, and health hardship. Some families were offered counseling and others were provided with aid for their time of need. The Family Service of Lexington and Fayette County was absorbed by other social service agencies in Fayette County by the mid 1960s.
- Scope and Content
- The Family Service of Lexington and Fayette County records (dated 1945-1961; 0.45 cubic feet; 1 box) include annual reports, board member correspondence, meeting agendas, and minutes relating to the work of the agency within the Fayette County, Kentucky community. The correspondence mostly discusses agency projects. The annual reports list some narrative examples of how the agency had affected individual families. The budget reports give some insight into what projects, like food or housing assistance, was important for the social work of the agency. Also the reports suggest how the agency collaborated with other benevolent institutions in Fayette County.
