- This account book is primarily a record of livestock breeding in central Kentucky, although it also contains records of crops harvested and other data. The volume contains data on cattle breeding, including information on breeding lines and the names of those whose cows were bred. Names included were R. A. Alexander, William Warfield, Dabney Overton, R. Collins and Mrs. Lucinda Calmes. The account book also contains data on hemp bought or harvested between 1843 and 1861, including acreage and sellers' names; on the renting of pastureland for sheep grazing; on Calmes' sale of a male slave to H. Clay Elliott in 1862 for $500; and on the sale and shipment of rope, probably made from hemp. Also included are a pencil copy of a letter from Henry Clay to an unknown person, and a copy of a letter concerning Mark Calmes of Frankfort, Kentucky, the son-in-law of a Judge Craddock.
