Scope and Content
These business records belonged to James Shanklin, a planter in Mason County, Ky, and include tax receipts (1843-1872) and bills of sale. Tax receipts give yearly assessments of his land and belongings including slaves. Several of the bills of sale are for the exchange of slave property.
