- Johnson served as a lieutenant colonel in the Confederate Army's Second Kentucky Battalion.
- Scope and Content
- This is a collection on microfilm of the letters of Thomas Johnson and others, written mainly during the Civil War. Among those of Johnson is a report he wrote of an engagement his unit fought in 1864. There are also some letters written by Roger W. Hanson, a Confederate Army colonel, to his wife, other letters she received, including one from General Simon Bolivar Buckner, and some of the letters she wrote to her husband.

The Breckinridge Research Room will be closed starting May 11, 2026, and anticipates re-opening Fall semester 2026 in an alternate location for the duration of the King Library renovation.
Reproduction requests will still be available during the closure.
