- Biography / History
- General Joseph Holt, a Kentucky native, was Judge Advocate General of the United States Army from 1862 through 1875. Holt was the presiding judge during the Lincoln assassination trials.
- Scope and Content
- The letter references Holt's defense of Sanford Conover's part in the capture of Jefferson Davis, and the latter's alleged complicity in Lincoln's assassination.
