- James Brown Clay (1817–1864) was born in Washington, D.C., while his father, Henry Clay, was serving in the United States Congress. He practiced law with his father in Lexington, Kentucky and was a member of the United States House of Representatives.

- James B. Clay writes that he is his father's "partner in the practice of law" and that in the absence of his father, Henry Clay, he may advise on all business matters.
