Collection Overview
- Biography / History
- In 1798 John James Dufour founded the Kentucky Vineyard Society, whose shareholders included Henry Clay, John Brown, and James Garrard. By 1860 Kentucky was the third largest grape producer in the United States, but the Civil War and Prohibition significantly impaired the industry. The owners of the Colcord Winery in Paris, Kentucky, revived the organization in 1980 to serve as an advocate for the wine industry in Kentucky. Currently, there are over 200 members in the organization.

- The Kentucky Vineyard Society records consist of organizational documents; its constitution and charter; letters; documents recording its history; and printed materials.
