- Journalist C.H. Ashton was the editor and sole proprietor of the Flemingsburg DEMOCRAT. He was also clerk of the circuit court.
- Scope and Content
- The reel of microfilm contains a copy of a scrapbook kept by C.H. Aston about politics in the United States and Kentucky in the late nineteenth century. Also there are some correspondence and legal documents The volume has newspaper clippings from the Flemingsburg DEMOCRAT. Louisville COURIER- JOURNAL, the Maysville EAGLE, and other papers concerning the politics of Kentucky, and newspaper biographical sketches (including portraits) of prominent Kentuckians. There are also poems published in newspapers. Among the articles are obituaries of Joshua Fry Bell, one-time gubernatorial candidate and U.S. Congressman who died in 1870, and Judge John M. Elliott, who was murdered in 1879. A portion of the scrapbook has numerous signatures. The clippings appear to be pasted over a record book of the Fleming County Sheriff. A letter from Henry Clay Dean of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa to D. K. Weis about a political barbecue is also located in the scrapbook.
