- Biography / History
- The Shackelford family settled in North Carolina in the seventeenth century. Members of the family resettled in Texas, Tennessee, and Kentucky by the twentieth century. In the 1940s members of the family published a magazine, Shackelford Clan Magazine, documenting the family ancestry beginning with the first American settlers.
- Scope and Content
- The Shackelford Genealogy Collection (dated 1945-1957; 0.23 cubic feet; 1 box) primarily consists of copies of the Shackelford Clan Magazine. The magazine is an extensive tracing of the family from 1658 until 1957. The records were compiled by Thomas Kelley Jones, a Shackelford descendant. Among the sources used for obtaining information were census, tax lists, family Bibles, deed books, newspapers and published materials. Also included in the collection are religious bulletins and pamphlets mostly relating to Paster Joe Johnson, a Disciples of Christ minister in Lexington, Kentucky in the 1950s.
